Acle War Memorial Recreation Centre & Social Club
Bridwell Lane, Acle
01493 752043

The Centre was opened in 1977 and has been expanded over the years, adding an indoor bowls complex in 1993 and an extension, principally for youth groups, in 2001. The Club further expanded its sporting facilities by having completed in February 2006 an all weather 6-a-side football pitch. This all weather pitch is floodlit and complies to FA standards.

The Centre is a registered Charity and is administered by a Committee of elected volunteers. The Centre serves the community of Acle and surrounding villages and has received great support from the Acle Parish Council.

The Centre consists of the Social Club, indoor bowling rink, main function hall, various sporting pitches and grounds as well as two private function rooms (all available for hire).

Acle Social Club
The Club is a members only Club with membership available for a nominal fee (Adults £5.00/year, Junior £3.00/year). Both Adult and Junior applications forms are available to download. Junior applications (16-18 years of age) require proof of age.

Both lunch and dinners are available in the Social Club, with a fish and chips lunch served on Fridays. Blackboard menu specials are available at the bar. Lunches are served from noon each day and dinner from 6.00pm each night.

Birthday Party Packges
The Club is putting together special birthday packages for children and teenagers. This will save parents the stress in organising both catering and entertaiment. The package will consist of hire of one of the function rooms, catering (optional is also the supply of a birthday cake), goodie bags and decorations, and disco entertainment (for the girls) and five aside coaching footie events (for the boys). Further details can be obtained from the Centre Manager.

The Main Hall is available for private hire (birthday parties, wedding receptions, auctions/exhibitions, fund raising activities, group or club meetings or private functions) at very competitive rates. In 2006 the Club applied for a special bar licence making this now fully available to all functions held in the Main Hall.

Meeting Rooms are available also for hire (Bure and Yare). The Bure meeting room is located on ground floor level, quite seperate to the main Club, has its own reception area, access to the rear sporting grounds, main room for seating theatre style or at tables, as well as a equipped kitchenette. The Yare meeting room is located on the first floor, access is via stairs or lift. The flooring in this room is suitable for childrens groups and sporting, exercise/fitness classes.

Some of Acle's regular groups utilise these meeting rooms, including Scouts and Clubs, Slimmers World, Karate, Table Tennis, KFA Mature Moves, Toddler Group and Messy Monsters Art Club.

Sporting Grounds
Regular club fixtures played at the Club include cricket, tennis, badminton, 6-a-side (on the new artificial turf pitch), outdoor lawn bowls (summer only) and football. Pitches are available for hire to various sporting clubs or organisations.

The Club also has its own outdoor and indoor bowls clubs darts and pool facilities. Affiliated sporting clubs utilising the facilities/grounds include Badminton, Acle Cricket Club, Acle Rangers FC, Acle Tennis Club, Acle United FC, Acle Youth FC.

October 07 - The Club is currently looking into the possibility of applying for a grant to replace the current children's playarea at the Centre and they are seeking ideas for the sort of equipment that locals would like to see added or replaced. Ideas can be dropped off (either drawings, a written description or photographs etc.) to the Recreation Centre.

Please contact the Centre Manager for further details.
