Acle War Memorial
The fallen of two World Wars are commemorated on the War Memorial which is situated in the churchyard of St Edmund's Church.
During the First World War many parishes collected photographs of their young men who had gone off to war. Very often these were mounted in frames and displayed in the church as a reminder to all of those who were fighting in far away places. We are fortunate that the Acle collection has, unlike so many, survived to this day. Together with photos of those who died during World War II they are kept at the back of the church.
There, too, are previous standards of the Royal British Legion and a Book of Remembrance which records as much as is known of the lives and times of the Acle men who died in both world wars.
Brief summaries of those details can be viewed on the internet on the renowned web site entitled Roll of Honour, located at http://www.roll-of-honour.com/Norfolk/Acle.html
To read the full stories why not pop into the Parish Church some time or borrow the book entitled 'Not Just Names in Stone' from the Acle Library?
The Legion wishes to remind all villagers that poppies will be widely available from Saturday 1st November until Sunday 11th November.
